Announcement: Passing of Rt Rev Leo McCartie, retired Bishop of Northampton

It is with sadness that I share the news of Bishop Leo McCartie's death, on the evening of 23rd April, at St Joseph’s Home in Birmingham.

Some of you may have met him before his retirement, as our local bishop for the Northampton Diocese. He was the tenth bishop of this Diocese.  Our current and newly ordained bishop is Right Reverend David Oakley.

Please keep Bishop Leo in your prayers, along with all those who have recently died. We give thanks for his life, his ministry and his pastoral leadership. You may choose to join me in saying:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon them,

May they rest in peace.

Let's continue to show our love and support to all those who are grieving at this time, including praying for Bishop Leo's family, friends and all who mourn him.

Bishop Leo McCartie’s funeral service has been arranged for the 12 May at 2pm in the parish cemetery at Great Billing, Northamptonshire. Bishop David Oakley, Bishop of Northampton, will celebrate a Requiem Mass before the burial at 12.30pm in Northampton Cathedral, which will be live-streamed.
