Plans to Open School

Dear Parent

Schools have been asked to prepare for opening for YR, Y1 and Y6 from after half term. I am writing to inform you of our plans so far and to gain your feedback and support.

To help us to make safe plans for your children and the staff in the school we need to understand how many children might need a place if the school were able to expand the number of pupils attending.

To help you make that decision please consider the following points:

The start and finish time of the school day will alter slightly to reduce the number of parents and children arriving on the site at the same time.
Parents will not be able to enter the site without an appointment (social distancing guidelines will apply).
Class groups will be reduced to a maximum of 15 children.

Priority will be given to Key worker children, vulnerable children, children eligible for Free School Meals and children without access to digital devices at home.

  • Keyworker children and those who are consider vulnerable for a variety of reasons will continue to be offered places in school

  • Nursey children will be offered a place in the morning or afternoon, but all day care will not be available.

o A member of staff will receive children at the door one at a time.
o The session will be shorter to allow for cleaning of all surfaces and resources between groups.
o Although there will be more of a focus on hand washing and personal hygiene, young children will not     be expected to keep physically apart. Staff will interact with your child as usual.

  • Reception children will be offered a shortened full day, including lunch.

o Children will be grouped with a staff member and will remain with this group all day, every day.
o The group will have its own classroom and will have turns during the day learning outside.
o Children will hand wash regularly and be taught to keep themselves safe and surfaces clean.
o All contact surfaces will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Classrooms will be deep cleaned               every evening.
o The curriculum may be altered; some things may not be taught because they can’t be taught safely.

  •  Year 1 children will be offered a shortened full day, including lunch.

o Children will be grouped with their teacher (where possible) and will remain with this group all day,              every day.
o The group will have their own classroom and will have turns during the day learning outside, Children        will hand wash regularly and be taught to keep themselves safe and surfaces clean.
o All contact surfaces will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Classrooms will be deep cleaned               every evening.
o The curriculum may be altered; some things may not be taught because they can't be taught safely.

  • Year 6 children will be offered a shortened full day, including lunch.

o Children will be grouped with their teacher (where possible) and will remain with this group all day every day.
o The group will have their own classroom and will have turns using outside areas, including PE sessions.
o Children will hand wash regularly and taught to keep themselves safe and surfaces clean.
o All contact surfaces will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Classrooms will be deep cleaned every evening.
o The curriculum may be altered to some things may not be taught because they can't be taught safely.

  •  Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 children (unless eligible) will not return to school at this time.

o Families with children in more than one year group will not be able to send their child to school unless they are in YR, Y1 or Y6.

Please complete the survey that is being sent to you, to help us plan for the safe return of your children to school.

Your child and our staff’s safety will remain the primary concern in any planning. It may not be possible to welcome back all pupils in the way the prime minister has described.
