Mathematics Vision Statement
Our vision for maths at St Joseph’s and St Gregory’s Primary school is that from Nursery to year 6 children receive high quality opportunities to learn the mathematics curriculum, through pedagogy based on Rosenshine’s principles of instruction. The use of multi–part lessons reflecting these principles allowing children to learn, using small steps and questioning, with opportunities to practice and review. Children engage in meaningful mathematics experiences through the use of concrete materials and manipulatives, visuals, technology, and other resources. They will build on a strong foundation of knowledge from the Early Years, which will lead to the successful completion of year 6. Throughout, seeking opportunities to apply their knowledge outside the classroom. We strive to ensure that children understand the value of mathematics in everyday life, in order that they may flourish in the real world.
